New Discovery School is committed to a child centered
community where learning encompasses the whole child; socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Our program is designed for children ages three to five and one-half years.
We celebrate the unique learning styles of each child by offering activities and projects that will engage and challenge while also providing success. Children are naturally creative and curious; our goal is to encourage, support, and provide numerous opportunities for the enhancement of their spirits.
New Discovery School
welcomes children of every race, color, creed, national or ethnic
origin, or sexual orientation. Children applying must be three years of
age by September 1. Children also must be toilet independent or able to
use the toilet on a regular basis.

Tours |
October-January |
All parents of applicants
must tour the school before applying. This offers parents the
opportunity to determine whether or not the school will be a comfortable
learning environment for their child. Tours are conducted on Thursday
mornings from 9:00am-10:30am beginning in October. To schedule a tour,
please call 206.447.2377 after mid September.

Application Deadline |
January 31 |
We will
mail you an application form when you
request information and an application or
when we see you. Complete the
application after the tour and return it to
New Discovery School before January 31 in order to
schedule a child visit. The application requires a non-refundable
fee of $45. Applications will be
accepted after this date but will be processed only as spaces become
available. Applications are accepted only the year prior to the
anticipated year of enrollment.

Student Visits |
December - mid-February. |
When an application is
received, we will schedule a date for your child’s visit. These visits
are held on Tuesday mornings beginning in December and continue until
mid-February. The visit will be an
opportunity for your child to explore a classroom with several other
applicants and participate in several brief activities with a teacher.
Parents may stay to help their child feel more comfortable. It is
through the child visit that parents and teachers may observe the
applicants in our school setting. It also helps us determine possible
class placement.

Notification |
February 28 |
Letters of notification
(acceptance or wait pool) are mailed on February 28, and all contracts
must be signed and returned with enrollment deposits by mid March.
Wait Pool
In our process of
placing children in classes, we attempt to balance the classes by age,
gender, and family birth order. When there is not a space available
for a child, he/she is placed in the applicant wait pool. After the
deadline for contracts to be returned is passed, we will draw from the
applicants in the wait pool. Applicants may choose to remain in the
wait pool until September. Applications are not carried over from one
year to the next. They must be reactivated and the process repeated to
be considered for the following year.
