Welcome to New Discovery School, a preschool where children know they are loved, respected, and honored; a place where we celebrate often and have fun every day, and a place that feels like home to both children and adults.
NDS has grown considerably since I founded it in 1985, but the essence of our program is still intact. My goals of creating an environment where young children are encouraged to create, explore, and make connections, and to know that they are honored and respected, are still thriving today only with a deeper and more thoughtful purpose. From my own educational experience and love of learning, I gained an appreciation for interdisciplinary studies. My training in elementary education from Pacific Oaks College convinced me that integrating subjects and project-based learning makes for a more meaningful and fulfilling learning experience. I wanted to give young children an opportunity to learn about the world in this way.
NDS has grown from one class of ten children located in the South Lake Union neighborhood to six classes and a team of talented teachers and specialists working together in the Roosevelt neighborhood. I love coming to school every day, where I am greeted by heartfelt hugs, hand drawn pictures, and the sparkling eyes of little ones. I love being a part of a community of educators and parents who all want to give children a strong foundation of respect, empathy, communication skills and a love of learning.
